A variety of equipment is traditionally used in STOTT PILATES to physically train the body, which modernizes the work of Joseph Pilates so as to make the work biomechanically sound and safe. At Bright Yoga, Ramona, Brooke will teach STOTT PILATES exercises that utilize Matwork and the apparatuses of the ‘Reformer' and ‘Stability Chair'. 


A variety of exercises in the STOTT PILATES 'Reformer' repertoire can be performed in a comfortable, 'seated' position.

Perhaps the most popular piece of Pilates equipment, the Reformer has a bed-like frame with a platform on it, called the ‘carriage', which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the Reformer by a set of springs that provide unlimited choices of resistance as the carriage is pushed or pulled along the frame. The adjustable carriage has shoulder blocks on it that keep clients from sliding off the end of the Reformer while performing exercises. Clients can sit, lie, or stand on the Reformer or on the floor, push the foot bar with feet, or hold onto it with their hands. Ropes with straps are also attached to the back end of the Reformer by pulleys, enabling clients to perform a multitude of exercises with their feet or hands in the straps. Exercises on the Reformer are ideal for yogis, golfers, runners, equestrians, tennis players, and clients looking to increase mobility and strength.

Designed to stretch and strengthen muscle groups not easily reached, the Chair consists of a seat and foot pedal where springs are attached. Clients can sit, lie, or stand on the Chair or on the floor, and push the foot pedal with their hands or feet. Like the Reformer, Chair exercises focus on core strength, leg strength, shoulder girdle stability and mobility, and functional movements such as standing, climbing, pushing, and lifting. Again, exercises on the Chair are ideal for clients seeking to increase power and mobility. Likewise, the Chair is also perfect for serving those who are unable to lie supine (on their backs), such as pregnant women or those with biomechanical issues.

Pilates equipment classes are available Mondays and Fridays at Bright Yoga, Ramona, 2330 Main Street, Suite F (in the large studio, to right of main studio entrance). In a ‘Semiprivate’ class, no more than two clients are taught at a time, ensuring plenty of personal attention and care from Brooke, and at prices that CANNOT be experienced at big-box studios ‘down the hill’! STOTT PILATES Matwork not only complements your Yoga practice but creates longer, leaner muscles, heightens core strength and spinal stability, produces better posture, sports performance, and general well-being. We will be using a Fitness Circle in this workshop to heighten mind-body awareness and increase resistance. Workshop clients must be able to get up and down to/from the floor, and in general good health. Please wear comfortable but fitted clothing so that teacher may check your body’s alignment.
